Marine Pilots

Experienced BC-based coastal pilots with knowledge of local waters and assigned by the Pacific Pilotage Authority will board the vessels at designated locations to provide navigational guidance to ship command through coastal waterways.

• BC’s marine pilots are government certified and are the most knowledgeable mariners about local waters on the coast
• In 2007, the Pacific Pilotage Authority provided marine pilots for 13,012 large vessels travelling through BC’s coastal waters and reported a 99.95% success ratio
• Through the use of these experienced pilots there has not been a single major incident on BC’s coast in the last 10 years
